Reflection Piece by

Queer Voices of Bhutan, Bhutan

I had the privilege of participating in the 2nd Learning Sessions on Inclusive Development for Sexual and
Gender Minorities, held at the Asian Development Bank (ADB) headquarters in Manila. Representing
Queer Voices of Bhutan, my role during this event involved active engagement in panel discussions and
the World Café sessions, where I shared insights from our work with LGBTQIA+ communities in Bhutan.
These dialogues provided a valuable platform to exchange best practices and learn from others
dedicated to fostering inclusivity in development.
All the panel discussions and the World Café sessions were very engaging and impactful. I had the
opportunity to share examples from our engagement with ADB in Bhutan, illustrating how inclusive
policies can drive tangible, positive changes in the communities we serve.

Reflecting on the meeting as a whole, I was deeply inspired by the diversity of participants and the
richness of the conversations. It was heartening to witness a shared commitment to breaking down
structural barriers and advancing equity for sexual and gender minorities. One key takeaway for me was
the emphasis on intersectionality—how overlapping identities, such as gender, sexuality, and socio-
economic status, must be at the center of policy-making and implementation. The sessions reminded us
all that inclusivity is not a destination but a continuous, collaborative process.
Looking ahead, I recommend that future learning sessions include more interactive workshops centered
on local capacity building, grassroots mobilization strategies, and the transformative power of inclusive
investments. Strengthening follow-up mechanisms would also help ensure that the insights and ideas
shared during these meetings are translated into impactful policies and projects.
This event has renewed my commitment to advocating for meaningful inclusion and equity. I extend my
gratitude to ADB, APCOM, and all the participants for creating a collaborative and supportive
environment. Together, we can continue to make significant strides toward a more inclusive and
equitable world.
