Bangkok, 05 May – APCOM Foundation has launched a new round of fundraising under its APCOMpassion Emergency Fund in response to the urgent crisis facing LGBTQI+ communities across Asia and the Pacific following the US Administration’s decision to freeze foreign aid.
To help kickstart this effort, leading LGBTQI+ party organisers in the region, known for creating safe and vibrant spaces for the community, are partnering with APCOM to raise emergency funds for those hit hardest by the funding freeze.
Many LGBTQI+ organisations and community clinics that rely on international support have been forced to cut services or close entirely, leaving people without access to life-saving medication, HIV treatment, prevention, mental health care, and other essential support.
“Community spaces are safe spaces where we can truly be ourselves – it is about the people, and that is why we have reached out to party organisers for support,”
said Midnight Poonkasetwattana, Executive Director of APCOM.
“Our community is under threat, and we are working with our friends, allies, and spaces of joy and solidarity, such as RGB Pride Party and White Party Bangkok and others, to ensure our communities are not left behind.”

The APCOMpassion Emergency Fund was initially launched during the COVID-19 pandemic to provide direct, flexible support to LGBTQI+ individuals and grassroots organisations. Today, it is being revived to respond to this new wave of urgent needs that threaten our communities’ health, rights, and well-being.
Party partners will support the campaign by contributing a portion of ticket sales, sponsoring tickets to be resold for fundraising, featuring the cause at events, and promoting the campaign through their networks.
APCOM commits to helping our community in the region, and in 2020, to fight against COVID-19, which has affected society as a whole, by setting up an emergency fund called CoronaAPCOMpassion. The campaign was first funded by APCOM staff members who donated their salaries to kick off the fund, and has some generous outside donors and individuals to join in the campaign.

“As a community organisation, we know how tough and extremely difficult times our communities are going through right now, especially as we are just recovering from the effects of Covid-19. We really need all hands on deck to ensure the resilience of our country partners, and you can be a big part in championing the health, rights and wellbeing of our communities in Asia and the Pacific,”
added Midnight.
