HIV & AIDS Support House (HASH)
Philippines
The HIV & AIDS Support House (HASH) is a community-led organisation based in Metro Manila, dedicated to advancing HIV prevention, care and rights for key populations and LGBTQI+ communities in the Philippines. HASH provides community-based HIV screening, self-testing, PrEP and PEP services powered by trained volunteers.

“Our work on the CODE Project redefined what’s possible, expanding our reach with accessible self-testing and boosting our digital promotion capacity through TESTMNL. This invaluable support, made possible by APCOM and the EJAF fund, strengthens HASH’s resolve to drive the HIV response forward, building a future where LGBTIQ rights are secured and community resilience is unbreakable.”

HIV & AIDS Support House (HASH) was co-founded by two friends, Desi Andrew M.I. Ching and Michael P. De Guzman, who met as volunteers of a telephone counseling line on Human Immunodeficiency Virus and Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (HIV and AIDS) in the mid-90s. By 2011, De Guzman had just returned to the country from more than 6 years of living in Cambodia while Ching had been living with HIV for about 4 years. Ching had been keenly observing and taking note of his (and other Men having Sex with Men People Living with HIVs) experiences as clients of HIV-related health services. The two agreed that something needed to be done to help improve the situation and promote the well-being of those newly diagnosed with HIV in order to positively affect treatment outcomes.
In late 2013, the two did a series of consultation meetings with friends and colleagues working in the field of HIV & AIDS, and sexual health. They developed the yet unnamed organization’s concept paper. A Board of Trustees was convened months later, who helped in coming up with the name HASH. In late July, the Board, with the participation of some volunteers, conducted its first Strategic and Operational Planning Workshop and came up with the organization’s Vision and Mission, along with a 3-year Strategic and Operational Plan.
In 2022, through the Meeting Targets and Maintaining Epidemic Control (EpIC) grant, HASH revised the original Vision and Mission to adapt to the community driven focus of the organization.
HASH delivers essential community-based services in Metro Manila, including HIV screening, pre-exposure and post-exposure prophylaxis and self-testing, driven by community volunteers and peer navigators.
As Philippines partner of the EJAF-supported CODE Strategies project, HASH built and runs testMNL, a community-made demand generation campaign. Achievements include:
- Reaching over 536,000 people and engaging 542,000 on social media in the campaign’s first quarter.
- Testing 4,047 people (92 reactive) in a single quarter, and conducting 2,713 HIV tests through community-based screening and self-test kits in October–December 2025.
- Signing MOUs with SAIL Makati and SAIL Caloocan, plus partnerships with HRPEC, PANTAY and Positibong Paigunio.
- Running campaigns such as #GetTested, #PrEPtected, #fromPilltoPower, #TDOV week and #PopUP-PrEP bar activations, alongside campus outreach at FEU and UP Diliman.
