To contribute to addressing the effects of the COVID-19 outbreak, APCOM started a fundraising and response mechanism called #CoronaAPCOMpassion. Launched in April 2020, the fundraiser was jumpstarted with APCOM staff voluntarily donating part of their salaries to #CoronaAPCOMpassion. The initiative aimed provide support to key populations and LGBTQI communities in Asia and the Pacific region.
The fundraising and emergency response initiative was a result of a survey that APCOM initiated which looked into the effects of COVID-19 to individuals and organizations working on the issues on HIV and LGBTQI human rights. The survey results informed APCOM in prioritizing communities’ needs and selected the following community-based organizations which will initially receive support from #CoronaAPCOMpassion. Each organization will be receiving USD 500.00 to support their COVID-19 related responses.

- Dareecha Male Health Society, an organization who works on health, health restoration, and social welfare of MSM and Transgender communities in Rawalpindi of Pakistan
- Suara Kita, an LGBTI organization that works for LGBT rights in Indonesia.
For purposes of transparency, APCOM signed a social contract with both organizations and had started the fund transfer processes. Both these organizations will use this fund to procure masks, hand sanitizers, basic food, and medicines, or whatever the communities need the most during the COVID-19 lockdown or post lockdown period. APCOM, Dareecha Health Society, and Suara Kita Society at all times will maintain and protect the confidentiality of beneficiaries and recipients of support.
APCOM will continue this effort to raise funds for its #CoronaAPCOMpassion, and the funds raised will continue to be distributed to other community-based organizations to help them contribute to addressing the community’s needs.
