4 December Bangkok, Thailand
Despite the challenges of Covid-19, APCOM ensured its 4th annual fundraising gala event – the HERO Awards 2020 – spectacularly spotlight LGBTQI and HIV activists, organisations and allies doing amazing work in such a challenging year.
“As Asia Pacific’s leading HIV and LGBTQI community networks – we are very glad that not only our annual gala event can happen, but that it sends a message of solidarity to our communities that we are in this together, and that their work matters and can inspire others and bring hope in the darkest of times,”
commented Midnight, APCOM Executive Director.

“Our entire team hope we have been able to deliver a fitting platform for our 2020 Award recipients and honourees. Thank you ever so much to our sponsors and supporters and community partners for making this an unforgettable night!”
The event gathered close to 300 participants physically at the beautiful Pullman Bangkok King Power Hotel, and many more through the Soldoutt virtual platform. The award ceremony brought together celebrities, special guests, community representatives and advocates, members of Bangkok’s diplomatic, corporate and entertainment field to pay tribute to the extraordinary contributions of individuals and organisations who have improved the lives of LGBTQI people and people affected by and living with HIV throughout the Asia Pacific region.
The glamorous evening featured famous stage show artists and live entertainment with music by LGBTQI performers, drag performances, a fashion show and charity auction.
As travel was not possible, Award recipients sent in their heartfelt videos to accept the Awards. Only two Award recipients from Thailand were able to receive the Award physically this year for the category of Shivananda Khan Award, and Social Justice Award.
