Briefing of Stakeholders on the Asia-Pacific Regional Review of Implementation of the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration on 26 August 2020

Four consultations to inform the Asia-Pacific Regional Review of Implementation of the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration will be organized.  Together, these consultations will address all 23 objectives of the GCM following the model of the four interactive multi-stakeholder round tables designated in General Assembly resolution 73/326 on ‘Format and organizational aspects of the international migration review forum’, namely:

‘Ensuring that migration is voluntary, orderly and regular’ (addressing GCM objectives 2, 5, 6, 12, 18) 

The GCM objectives that will be discussed at this first consultation are: 
2. Minimize the adverse drivers and structural factors that compel people to leave their country of origin 
5. Enhance availability and flexibility of pathways for regular migration 
6. Facilitate fair and ethical recruitment and safeguard conditions that ensure decent work 
7. Strengthen certainty and predictability in migration procedures for appropriate screening, assessment and referral 18. Invest in skills development and facilitate mutual recognition of skills, qualifications and competences
