It is unbelievable that we are commemorating and honouring the memory and achievements of APCOM’s Founder the late Shivananda Khan who passed away ten years ago on 20 May 2013.
Shivananda was a huge force on HIV and LGBTQI human rights issues in the Asia Pacific region for decades. His passing was a tragic loss for our community. He was a true pioneer with a splendid vision on how equality and rights should be achieved for our diverse community.
On that path he found many that were against him, tried to stop or divert him, but he tirelessly continued his battle. He was a true hero and the impact of his myriad contributions, including developing new leadership. We hope that APCOM is continuing his vision and achievements that will resonate through our community for many more years to come.
APCOM will be recognising his legacy through:
- the Shivananda Khan NGO Symposium, and a Community Solidarity event at the up-coming APACC 2023 in Singapore
- the IAS 2023 abstract driven Shivananda Khan Symposium, in Brisbane in July, and a Community Solidarity event
- APCOM Community Summit, taking place 20-23 November in Bangkok Thailand
- 7th HERO Awards, taking place on 24th November in Bangkok, Thailand
